What is AWS Service Workbench?

AWS Service Workbench on AWS is a self-service cloud solution that enables IT teams to provide secure, repeatable, and federated control of access to data, tooling, and compute power. The platform allows users to build self-service portals for creating and managing secure computing environments, enabling teams to quickly stand up research and development environments without navigating complex cloud infrastructure.

For organizations, Service Workbench provides a collaborative solution that integrates existing AWS services such as Amazon CloudFront, AWS Lambda, and AWS Step Functions. The platform enables you to create custom templates and share them with other organizations while providing cost transparency through integration with AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets, and AWS Organizations.

Users can focus on their core work and complete essential tasks in minutes, not months, using pre-configured environments. The platform supports various workspace types including Amazon SageMaker, AWS EMR, EC2 instances, and RStudio environments, all provisioned automatically with appropriate security controls and cost management.
