Transforming Cloud Management for Mary’s Meals with AWS Control Tower and Landing Zone Accelerator

About Mary’s Meals

Mary’s Meals is a global charity that works with some of the world’s poorest communities to serve life-changing school meals to more than 2.4M children in areas where hunger and poverty stand in the way of education. It is estimated that 67 million primary age children are out of school globally. And even for those who are able to attend, hunger is one of the biggest barriers to concentration and learning. Mary’s Meals provides nutritious daily meals that promote access to education, reduce classroom hunger, and give children energy to concentrate and participate in class.

The Challenge

With a mission to tackle the global issue of child hunger through effective school feeding, Mary’s Meals needed a secure, compliant, and efficient cloud infrastructure which would enable the organisation to foster innovation and rapidly adapt to changing requirements or opportunities, all whilst focusing on its core business objective of serving more children in need.

The Solution

CirrusHQ were engaged to implement an AWS Landing Zone Accelerator (LZA) for security and robust governance across all of Mary’s Meals AWS accounts added to the LZA.

The Landing Zone Accelerator on AWS solution deploys a foundational set of capabilities that is designed to align with AWS best practices and multiple global compliance frameworks. By leveraging AWS Control Tower with this solution, Mary’s Meals can automate the provisioning and management of AWS resources, reducing manual effort and increasing operational efficiency. By implementing centralised control of AWS accounts including centralised cost management and billing, security, monitoring and logging as part of the AWS Landing Zone Accelerator, Mary’s Meals can potentially realise significant cost savings and increased operational efficiency, ultimately enabling the charity to better serve its mission of promoting access to education and reducing classroom hunger for children living in poverty.

The Benefits

  • With a well-defined and standardised infrastructure setup, Mary’s Meals can streamline its operations, enabling faster deployment of applications and services to support their mission.
  • By implementing a secure and compliant infrastructure from the outset, Mary’s Meals can mitigate potential security risks and avoid costly data breaches or regulatory fines.
  • Mary’s Meals can quickly provision and scale their AWS resources as needed, allowing the organisation to respond rapidly to changing demands or growth in their operations, expand its reach and serve more children in need.
  • AWS Control Tower and LZA facilitates centralised governance and management of multiple AWS accounts, enabling better collaboration and oversight across Mary’s Meals’ global operations. This can lead to improved decision-making, better resource allocation, and more effective coordination among teams working towards the organisation’s mission.

“CirrusHQ helped us introduce AWS Control Tower and LZA to ensure our account management is streamlined, that our deployed resources are optimised and compliant with our security objectives and that these are consistently applied across our environments. This saves us time and brings peace of mind that our accounts and deployed resources are being managed according to industry best practice. Very happy with the results!”
